this is not a print. each rubbing is a hand made original this is a hand made rubbing of saint george and the dragon, measuring 13" x 8 1/2", created with a gold wax compound with red and blue highlights on a special black rag paper. the woodcut is from the 1590 edition of spencer's 'the fairie queen', dedicated to queen elizabeth i. saint george is depicted as a medieval armoured knight on horseback and symbolised the triumph of the christian church over evil and paganism. the border is a celtic knotwork design. this woodcut is from an exhibition featured at the washington national cathedral by the london brass rubbing centre and has more recently been on a national tour as part of their brass rubbing workshop. rubbings like this one, hand made by one of my craft instructors, make unusual and interesting gifts. i will send it to you rolled up in a strong postal tube. it can be hung either from wooden dowels or matted and framed under glass. shipping and handling charges include insurance cover during transit. i am pleased to offer a combined shipping cost if you decide to buy more than one rubbing and they can be rolled together into one mailing tube. i invite you to visit my ebay store, the wonders of britain, where you will find a wide variety of beautiful and interesting ...
