family album a pictorial history of the mclean family of gaston county, north carolina compiled by leon leslie mclean updated and arranged by thelma hodge mclean edited by geraldine hagan johnston drawings by rose mclean whitesides published by a press, greenville, sc, 1988 undoubtedly one of the best family history books i have ever seen. well-written with comprehensive research not only with the people but also placed in context with their region and era with great detail. loaded with b & w photos, drawings, and copies of memorabilia. i am not connected to this family at all, yet i enjoyed reading the description of rural family life, the great depression, and other historical events as they related to this family. if you are connected to this family, then this is a true heirloom to treasure! there are too many associated surnames from the index to list, but here are a few that seemed to have the most family members listed: adams---bradley---craig---davis---gant---glenn---gray---hoke---jackson---jenkins---johnston---jordan---lewis---love----maclean----mclean---rankin----rhyne----robinson---smith---suggs---whitesides---wilson---workman condition is very good: oversize hardcover (no dustjacket). minor shelfwear at corners and along spine. deep red leather-look cover with gilt on front & spine. back cover has some ink smudges & a discolored spot (see pic). front cover bright--one small area at bottom middle in the word "arranged" where the gilt has dulled. interior pristine: 566 clean pages--no tears, stains, marks, creases, or odors. binding good--no loose pages, but i would caution to handle with care as it is a very heavy (4lbs) ...
